Company History

Le Versant Rouge is a 75 acres land situated at 576, 4e rang Est, Saint-Georges-de-Windsor. We planted around 3500 apple trees on 20 acres and strawberry plants on 7 acres. Here is, in details, the evolution of our company:

1982-1985

Planting the orchard, nearly 1000 apple trees a year.

1981

Buying the land.

An important step

1990

Building of a 60’ by 100’ warehouse including a cold room for storing the apples from September till May.

1989

Legal establishing of the farm in the form of a collective name brand.

1987

First apple harvesting, small but promising.

Major step: first welcoming of school groups and tourists, visiting our installations and the orchard.

Le Versant Rouge varies its production

1996

New products are added: Rhubarb and strawberry jam, apple and strawberry jelly, as well as maple jelly.

1995

Beginning of presentations during agricultural fairs, in order to show our products to a bigger customer base. Perfecting the final product and the product’s image.

1994

Putting out our transformed products under the trademark Le Versant Rouge. Production of apple jellies, apple butter, raw apple juice and sparkling apple juice (pasteurized, filtered, and carbonated apple juice, non-alcoholic).

1993

Construction of a processing plant to produce jelly and apple butter.

1993

Purchase of a large juice maker in order to produce a natural, raw, cold pressed apple juice.

Competition, it’s not easy

1998

Taking part in a regional campaign in order to spread the word about our local products: “Goûtez l’Estrie comme c’est fin.”

1998

Construction of a new booth at the farm to help take care of our tourist customers.

Finally known

1997-2000

Enlarging of our detail market. Special offers on our products during financing campaigns of organisms, schools, clubs, or associations.

1998

The company gets into the supermarket chains : Provigo, Métro and IGA.

No signs of slowing down

2003-2006

During the last few years, thanks to the efforts of a new distributor and some representatives travelling around the province, Le Versant Rouge positioned itself favourably in many regions of Quebec, from large surface stores to specialized grocery outlets. At the end of 2005, Provigo introduced a local products section in the region of Quebec. Le Versant Rouge was able to position itself because of the quality of its products.

2002

Creation of a new room for transformations of our products.

2001

Start of production of a light cider and a sparkling cider, only available at Le Versant Rouge.

A great step ahead: The farm is going organic

2010

Since having its organic certification for Éco Cert Canada, Le Versant Rouge is now ready to offer its new spreads during financing campaigns, for schools, kindergartens, non-profit organizations, etc.

2009

The company is accepted by the Éco Cert Canada organisation for a pre-certification period in organic production and transformation. Come visit us to pick your own apples, strawberries, and taste our famous organic spreads, easily available on the premises and in different supermarket, healthcare shops, and fine grocery stores.

We invite you to follow the development of the Versant Rouge in its development and maintain its production. Come to the farm to pick your apples, strawberries and taste our famous organic spreads that you can buy locally and in different food markets, health shops and delicatessens.

2011

After 3 years of pre-certification, Le Versant Rouge has finally obtained its organic certification in apple and strawberry productions. Getting there was a most exciting challenge, but we are most proud of what we’ve accomplished!
